Building a Better Bungalow: July 2009

Projects Completed...

44. Bathroom skylight removed / roof patched.
43. Garage roof repaired / shingles replaced.
42. Replaced rotted fascia and soffit boards on garage (almost all of them).
41. Installed chain-link fence and gate in gangway to replace deteriorated privacy fence.
40. Demolished hot tub and had all demo materials removed.
39. Demolished "carport" over the hot tub.
38. Installed paver patio around all four vegetable garden beds in back.
37. Repaired/improved vegetable beds.
36. Built a raised bed and planted five privacy shrubs along east fence next to garage.
35. Tore down entire east privacy fence in backyard (wind helped with a few panels, forcing me to action).
34. Installed sewer line cleanout in front of house; city replaced several feet of sewer line in street.
33. Lay flooring in the basement.
32. Repair doorknob/latch mechanism to door to basement (thanks Dad!).
31. Purchase master bedroom set (in progress).
30. Purchase mission-style dining room set.
29. Replace leaky p-trap and backward-sloping PVC drain pipe under main bathtub.
28. Get interior stairs carpeted.
27. Create raised vegetable beds in backyard, including planting the veggies.
26. Basement family room carpentry, electrical, drywall done. Fireplace and window blinds installed. Ready for primer/paint and flooring.
25. Insulation company insulated 2nd floor bedrooms, floor and crawlspaces.
24. Garbage disposal? Magically fixed itself!
23. Replace and seal nearly 90 feet of fencing on west side of backyard.
22. Replace microwave oven in kitchen.
21. Replace shower head in upstairs bathroom.
20. Improve curb appeal by purchasing stone planters.
19. Have plumber replace water supply line to help water pressure.
18. Assemble baby's new crib.
17. Get baby furniture.
16. Paint baby's room.
15. Remove pressure-assist toilet upstairs and replace with new standard tank toilet.
14. Get porch foundation repaired and cracks sealed.
13. Empty out rented storage facility--stop paying The Man for space we don't need!
12. Install window A/C units.
11. Clean out attic crawlspace (majority of it done).
10. Have windows restored.
9. Buy/install new china cabinet hardware.
8. Buy new kitchen faucet and install. And then calm down.
7. Buy a sprinkler; subsequently, water lawn. :)
6. Purchase new refrigerator.
5. Get china cabinet.
4. Have roof replaced.
3. Hire roofer and window repairman.
2. Start building/planting garden.
1. Install CO and smoke detectors.

Yeah, beets...

Pulled up four Chioggia beets today...the four were more than ready! Took out the cheese shredder, sauteed them in a frying pan briefly with some butter, and they were tasty. More coming!

We have our first official harvest success!

Where have I been? Very, very busy. But that hasn't stopped the gardening from continuing...and the beauty of perennials is, LITTLE MAINTENANCE!

I love it. But, check out my veggie garden...it's actually growing and growing well, given the cool, wet conditions we've had most of the past couple months...
